  • Depending on the number of cats we are caring for and the space we have available, we do take in stray cats. Strays that are friendly once had people, they may be lost and we appreciate you taking the time to help.

However, before reaching out to a rescue/shelter:
    1. Take a photo of the cat and post it on Missing Pet Pages on Facebook.
    2. Try a paper collar
    3. Talk to neighbours in case it is a lost pet
    4. Check for a tattoo (right ear)
    5. Bring to a clinic to check for a microchip

If no one claims the cat, reach out but understand space is limited and it will take time before the cat can be brought in.

Without bylaws that demand the spay and neuter of free-roaming cats, rescues are completely unable to stay ahead of the cat population in Chilliwack.

Please email your city council and Fraser Valley Regional District to let them know what your experience has been.

  • Search the Neighbourhood
Search the area in which your pet was lost: Walk or drive through your neighbourhood several times a day, early in the morning and at dusk when it is quiet. Call your pet’s name and shake a bag of their favourite treats. Take a flashlight to look under things. Remember to look up as well.

    Ask around: Talk to your
Neighbours, mail carriers, store owners, etc. and ask them to be on the lookout for your pet. Ask neighbours to check their backyards, bushes, garages and sheds.

    Try the power of scent:
Place a recently worn piece of clothing or your pet’s favourite toys/bed outside. Animals have a good sense of smell and they may follow the scent home.

    Put up posters:
Create a poster or make one free on the BCSPCA PetSearch site. Include a photo, description, location lost, and your contact info. Post it around your neighbourhood (telephone poles, stores, parks, vet offices.)

    Use the Web
Post to social media: Take a good photo of the animal and make a post including a description, the area they went missing, day/time of the incident, your contact info, along with any other information. Share it on your local Facebook or Twitter networks.

Don’t give up searching for your pet!
It is important to begin searching for your pet as soon as you realize they are missing.
Continue to search for your pet even if there is little hope. Many animals who have been lost for months or years have been reunited with their guardians.

  • If you have found kittens in the community or have kittens you need to surrender please contact: abccatrescue@gmail.com

  • The Last Litter Program is to help people who have had accidental litters get their mama cat fixed for free with the surrender of the kittens.

This helps end the cycle of pregnancy as well as guarantees the kittens will receive vetting and will be spayed/neutered before being placed in a home so the cycle doesn’t continue.

The Last Litter Program includes spay, 1 FVRCP vaccine, Revolution, All Wormer, and Microchip with free lifetime registration.

  • We understand that there are times when life changes happen and you have come to the difficult decision to surrender your cat.

We do take on cats being surrendered by their owners but it is dependent on the space we have at the time of contact.

We recommend that the moment you know that you (or a loved one you are caring for) might need to surrender your cat you reach out right away to be put on a waiting list. Then reach out to family and friends to see if anyone would be interested in taking on the cat. It is important that you also take the time to look for solutions so that rescue spaces can be saved for urgent cases.

There are times when we can take cats on right away but last-minute notice means we are often not able to help in time.
